THIS WEEK, we will be reading Boeing Boeing, a fantastic farce.  The reading will take place on Wednesday, February 15th at 7pm at 4930 Lankershim.  Come up to 30 minutes before the reading and we’ll get going!

Salesman Willy Loman is in a crisis. He’s about to lose his job, he can’t pay his bills, and his sons Biff and Happy don’t respect him and can’t seem to live up to their potential. He wonders what went wrong and how he can make things up to his family

As pilot season continues (or approaches) and we are out there auditioning for theatre, TV and Film a lot of us (myself included) have updated our looks- cut our hair/ lost weight/ improved body parts…making our head shots something that will just make a casting director mad (we all know they called you in off of that picture- so you have to look like your photo when you walk in the door). Johnny Mize: (Travis Riner) 27. Indiana farm boy. War veteran who got half his foot shot off in Iraq. Handsome. Cynical. Ambitious.
Kelly Bricker: (Jeni Incontro) 25. Beautiful – “trophy wife” beautiful. If she is miserable inside she does a great job of hiding it. Kelly is on a mission to be the best wife ever. She is perky, peppy, volunteers for everything and always looks great.

Charles Bricker: (John Ross Clark) 70. Kelly’s husband. Retired multi-millionaire. Republican. Conservative. Still handsome and fit. Strong-willed. Opinionated but cool like a politician.

Crystal Jones: (Emily Clark Simpson) 15. Kelly’s Sister. Hates everything. A gangly, disheveled mess who is much prettier than she knows. Crystal thinks she’s the smartest person in the room and probably is. She can be surprisingly charming and verbal when she wants something.

Vijay Ganeshwaran: (Oscar Gubelman) 24. Indian descent. Born in Gary, Indiana. No accent. Eager. Hard working. Hungry.

Control Tower Gal: (Courtney Bell)  30. No nonsense woman in charge. Thick, nasal, Indiana accent. She takes pride in her job.

SCENE STUDY with John Ross Clark!!

Get your Scene Study on this February with Play Club West!  Play Club member and living legend, John Ross Clark, will teach you how to become a ninja master at Scene Work, in only four class sessions. We hope you’ll join us, as you’ll definitely come out of this a better actor!

“My work is based on the precepts of moment to moment, in the moment acting, as espoused by Robert Cohen in his text Acting Power.

It combines the work of Adler (active imagination), Strasberg (emotional memory), Hagen (sense memory), Meisner (listen and react), and Alfred Molina (classical) into a comprehensive approach to the craft. The focus is on training your instincts to find the correct response in an emotional construct, and learning to trust those instincts as a human being. Basically, it’s about learning to get out of your own way.

More importantly, it’s about finding your voice and refining your instincts to reach an emotional truth. It’s intensive scene study in a safe emotional environment.”

WHO IS JOHN ROSS CLARK?: 
A member of Actor’s Equity, AFTRA and SAG, John Ross Clark has appeared on stages all over the United States and in China. In Los Angeles, he has performed at The Theatre at Boston Court, The Odyssey, The New American Theatre, Circus Theatricals, The Laguna Beach Playhouse, California Repertory Company, Theatre Neo, Little Fish Theatre Company, Company of Angels, The Colony, Open Fist, The Road, Son of Semele, Kingsmen Shakespeare, and Elephant Theatre Companies.

John was also a theatre critic for Backstage West/Drama-Logue for two years.

John has a Master of Fine Arts in Acting from Long Beach State where he studied under Ashley Carr, a protege of famed acting coach, Robert Cohen. He has also worked with Alfred Molina, David Suchet, Tom Troupe, Jack Stehlin, and Don Eitner.

John has received various nominations for his roles in “The Memorandum,” “Molly Sweeney,” “The Chicago Conspiracy Trial,” “Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune,” “Oleanna,” and “Lydie Breeze.”  FILM: Phase Two, George Bush Goes to Heaven, One Man’s Treasure, Partners in Crime. TV: Jon Benjamin Has a Van, Brothers and Sisters, The West Wing, The Practice.

The reading is this Wed. January 18th at 7pm. It will be held at NoHo Stages located at 4930 Lankershim blvd. There is parking behind the theater and also ample street parking.

THE STORY: THE ALTRUISTS revolves around a dedicated, if disorganized and demented, group of young radicals. These are the kids who protest. They protest arts funding and arms funding. They protest school cutbacks and AIDS cutbacks and welfare cutbacks. They march for gay rights and children’s rights and Women Against Drunk Drivers. But their morality is put to the test one day when Sydney, a shallow, anorexic soap-opera actress, fires a gun into the hulking body of her sleeping boyfriend. Terrified, she looks to her brother, Ronald, the center of this merry band of radicals, for help. Ronald, a social worker, wants to aid his sister, but at the moment he’s consumed with love. The object of his affection? A young runaway prostitute, Lance. It is Ethan, Ronald’s cohort, who points out that they need Sydney—without her money they can do no good in the world. After all, “firebombs don’t grow on trees.” And when Sydney pressures him, revealing her vulnerability and her real affection for the first time, Ronald acquiesces. He makes the ultimate sacrifice, that of his own happiness for the greater good. And this group of altruists frames Lance, never noticing the irony as they head off to protest the unjust outcome of a trial involving a young man who resembles Lance in every way

This week, we will be reading the classic script : PRINCESS BRIDE!!!!  A classic fairy tale, with swordplay, giants, an evil prince, a beautiful princess, and yes, some kissing (as read by a kindly grandfather).

The reading is this Wednesday, January 11th at NoHo Stages (4930 Lankershim Blvd, North Hollywood).  We will start at 7:00pm, but we usually get into the space around 6:30, so feel free to show up between 6:30 and 7:00, especially if you want to go through the script at all.  There is parking behind the theater, as well as street parking.
